Bienvenidos
We warmly welcome you to our casitas near Monteverde. Our location was once a dairy farm that provided for the local cheese factory. It has been in our family since the late 70s but during the last six years we have converted the workers’ homes into lodgings for travelers looking for a cozy spot while they visit the green mountain.
Whether you have come for a couple of days or a couple of weeks, we will do our best to help you have an enjoyable and unique experience here on the Pacific side of the Continental Divide where the sunsets are spectacular. Along with our friend Kay Chornook, we offer this booklet as an introduction to the myriad of activities, tours, shopping and restaurants that are available in the area and hope it will assist you in your time here.
The community of Monteverde is a friendly mix of ticos, Quakers, artists, scientists, farmers, students and international visitors – co-existing with cows, horses, sloths, monkeys, butterflies and thousands of species of flora and fauna. This is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet and has a fascinating history. Kay wrote a book called Walking with Wolf: Reflections on a life spent protecting the Costa Rican wilderness that shares the colorful stories of Wolf Guindon, one of the original Quaker pioneers who came to the area in 1951 and later became the leading conservationist of cloud forest. You may be interested in learning and understanding more about this special place so we have copies of Kay’s book available upon request.
We can provide a lot of information on shuttles to other parts of Costa Rica – private, shared, and public. We are happy to help you arrange your onward transportation.
At the back of this list you will find information about our neighbor Sergio Araya and his project Parque EcoPaz where there are trails and common areas that you can enjoy right from our backdoor. There is also a list of contact numbers you may need.
We have included our favorites in a number of categories but the area offers such a large variety of choices, we have had to limit our selections – but no need to limit yours! Get out there and enjoy the forest, the fun, the food and the friendly neighbors – and the sunsets! Don't hesitate to ask us for more information. We are very happy that you are here.
